CARIBBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH SET FOR FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13th...  ICS CARAH GALA turns Sweet Sixteen.  Gala Hosts which include best selling author Beverley East; Civility expert Yasmine Anderson-Smith; and  Anthony Powell former White House Mess Hall Chief are putting the final touches on plans to honor notables such as George Willie,. CEO Bert Smith and Hon. Shirley Nathan Pulliam.    

WILLARD WIGAN MBE world famous micro-sculptor at Parish Gallery...  The 2009 CARAH GALA honoree will be featured artist at Parish Gallery in Georgetown on the Washington DC leg of his US Tour. The Tour is being organized by ICS partner Caribbean Heritage Organization of Los Angeles.  George Clarkson Media will serve as Public Relations Partner for the Washington DC visit.

ICS PRESIDENT NAMED NATIONAL PROFILE PARTNER FOR THE 2010 CENSUS.... ICS President Dr. CLaire Nelson was named a National Partner of the Census 2010 as ICS President Chairs the coalition of Caribbean Organizations and leaders established as the Caribbean American Complete Count Committee.

Highlights

CARIBBEAN AMERICAN LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE WEEK A SUCCESS...ICS Legislative Week featured the first gathering of the Caribbean American Elected Officials Advisory Council.  With approximately  fifty self-identified persons of Caribbean heritage in elected office one of the goals is to ensure sharing of information between the members and strengthening relationships between community based organizations and these leaders.

The White House Briefing which was attended by a Capacity Crowd included presentations on CENSUS 2010, Immgration Reform, Health Care Disparity, and Trade.  Valerie Jarrett Senior Advisor to the President was among the Speakers addressing the audience.

 ICS SUPPORTS WORK OF CONGRESSIONAL CARIBBEAN CAUCUS... ICS will partner with the Office of Congressman Donald Payne to organize  a Series of Breakfasts  targeting the Caribbean Diplomatic Corps and key leaders in the policy community.  The Breakfast Discussion series will feature  priorities highlighted such as: Security; Offshore Financial Services; Climate Change; and Economic Development.    

 

ICS INVITED TO WHITE HOUSE IMMIGRATION FORUM...

ICS was among the list of NGOs invited to attend the White House Forum on Immigration Reform hosted by the Department of Homeland Security.  The gathering was surprised by a drop-in visit of President Obama.  ICS Immigration Working Group Co-Chaired by Dr. Dorith Grant Wisdom will organize Listening Forums to assist in the preparation of a Caribbean American Agenda.

 ICS PARTNERS WITH VIRGIN ISLANDS INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT FOR PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL BALL

On Tuesday,  January 20, 2009, ICS joined with VIID in its Inaugural Ball.  The Ball which was also cosponsored by The National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians included among its well wishers- Secretary General of the OAS; Roland Martin, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Delegate Shirley Nathan Pulliam from Baltimore;  and Hartford City Council Member Hon. Veronica Airey Wilson.  Corporate Partners included: Angostura and Ainsley Gill and Associates.   

ICS JOINS THE BLACK LEADERSHIP FORUM

ICS was formally inducted into the BLACK LEADERSHIP FORUM at the Lamplighter Awards in February.  ICS president was nominated by Jena Roscoe, Vice President of Operation Hope and a Clinton White House Appointee, to help bring the voice of the Black immigrant and the international agenda to the deliberations of the the Black Leadership Forum which is network of the leading civil rights and Black professional organizations.

ICS JOINS CAMPAIGN FOR THE EXONERATION OF MARCUS GARVEY...ICS has signed on to a Coalition of organizations that will promote the passage of the Congressional Bill to Exonerate Marcus Garvey.  The Coalition is chaired by Yaw Davis of the UNIA.  Plans are being out in place for the naming of the Hall of Culture at the Organization of American States as the Marcus Garvey Hall.

ICS INVITED TO PARTNER WITH AFRICAN FEDERATION... The African Federation a network of African immigrant organizations has invited ICS to support their growth and development by serving as a mentor/partner.  ICS President was invited as a Special Guest to participate in their Annual Retreat in New York City.
